Arcam, the centre for architecture in Amsterdam, tipped Q Residences as one of the 10 projects to watch out for in 2022. Why Arcam tips Q Residences: because it is the realisation of the first building in Europe for the renowned Studio Gang, founded and led by Jeanne Gang. In 2019, Jeanne was named World’s Most Influential Architect by Time Magazine. Gang was first widely recognised for the Aqua Tower in Chicago, the second tallest female-designed building in the world. Aqua was surpassed in 2020 by the nearby St. Regis Chicago, also of her design. And also because between the two buildings there will be a plaza, designed by renowned landscape architect Piet Oudolf.
Arcam organises programmes on architecture and urban development. Their exhibitions, debates and research projects are accessible but critical; aware of history but always looking to the future. As organiser of the Amsterdam Architecture Prize (AAP), they keep a close eye on future building production. They leave the selection of the ten nominations entirely to an independent jury, but also like to look ahead to the projects that will colour the image of the city. And Q Residences is one of them.
